Summer Reading: Heidi

This summer, among many other books, I read Heidi by Johanna Spyri. For about the third or fourth time. The story is about a young girl who is taken to live with her grandfather in the mountains, near a small village called Dorfli. She enjoys several years of playing with the goats and her friend Peter the goatherd and eating toasted cheese and goat milk. (For the days I was reading this book, I really wanted to eat as she did.) After this period of time, her aunt comes and brings her to stay in Frankfurt to be friends with a little girl, Klara, who is paralyzed in both legs. Although Heidi becomes fast friends with Klara, she soon becomes so homesick that she actually becomes ill, and is then brought back to her grandfather. There is more to the story, but if I write about it, I'll ruin the rest of the book.
Every time I read this story, I feel happy and calm and cheerful inside. I'm not sure exactly why; it might have to do with how Heidi feels and acts and how the story is written. All I know is that it made me even be happy to set the table. Heidi is just so content with everything as long as she's in the mountains that it makes me feel the same way. This is definitely one of my favorite books!
